Savannah, Georgia
This was my first trip where I had blogging in the forefront of my mind, and I loved it. Everything I saw, I ate, or did transformed into a story. It felt like living in a movie, and that’s exactly why I started this passion project.
We originally planned to go to savannah for a half marathon that my friend Morgan and I signed up for in January. At the time we planned it because we love running together and wanted to run another half. At the time we also did not even think about St. Patrick’s day. Our trip lasted from March 12-14 and the city was in full St. patty’s day mode. From what we heard from the locals, the week before is the pregame, the week of is full on party, and the week after is the post game. So basically, the party lasts three weeks.
I had been to savannah before not like this. The last time I visited savannah I was probably in 6th grade, and I was visiting the home of Juliet Gordon Lowe’s house (the founder of Girl Scouts of American).
We started the trip off with a locals spot called Driftaway Cafe. I was recommended this spot by a friend of mine who has worked in savannah every summer. I knew I would want to spend the rest of the trip within walking distance of river street and downtown savannah, so this was the only restaurant we had to drive and park at. Driftaway cafe is a prime example of sleepy beach town diner. Service was slow but not bad. They even had a restaurant cat napping in the sun on a bar stool.
I never grouped savannah with the Nola/Las Vegas type cities, but sure enough as we walked by the river we were offered $1 Jell-O shots, $5 drink pouches and tall slushees. We couldn’t turn down the “adult Capri suns” and bought them. This took us to upstairs at rocks on the roof at the bohemian hotel. The rooftop bars give you a great view of the river and downtown savannah. I think throughout the whole trip we visited 4 rooftop bar locations and that wasn’t even all of them. Along with Rocks on the Roof, we tried The Grove (recommend this for live music), top deck (recommend for the charcuterie board) and electric moon skylounge (recommend for the fun chairs and activities).
